17-year Cicadas

A cicada emerges at night.
Another cicada emerging in the daytime, which is more unusual. Notice it's wings unfolding.
Cicada emerging, wings opaque short stubs.
A successfully emerged cicada.
The empty shell left behind by a cicada. These are still clinging to branches weeks after the emergence!
A cicada, doing what cicada's do early on. They sit pretty still and gather their energy.
They are quite beautiful if you can get past the red eyes.
Pretty scary looking faces, but they do have lots of character.
See what I mean?
